So I was reading Proverbs 24 yesterday and a very simple verse struck me:
27 First plant your fields; then build your barn.
I'm sure there are many ways to see this verse... but here are my thoughts. I find that I am generally quite the over-thinker. To put it more fairly or pleasantly I'm really a big picture thinker. Ask my husband and with a giggle he will tell you that I am thinking about the friendship before I've met the person, the job before I've done the interview and the house before I've saved the money (to name a few random examples:). All these things are fine and good, and there is nothing wrong with planning... but I just liked the simple inference in this verse - I feel like it is saying: one step at a time. Start from the beginning and allow things to unfold; don't get ahead of yourself. For a girl who is always 100 steps ahead of herself and very overwhelmed, this verse is a great reminder and a great encouragement. I once heard the quote "Plan for your future, but don't live in it" - I feel like Proverbs 24:27 is a great parallel to that statement.
I think we all get caught up in imagining what the future might be like and then living as if it has unfolded. Whether we imagine a relationship changing or a situation at work taking a turn, or a possible increase in income... The truth is, there's often great wisdom in taking things one step at a time. This is a great verse and I think you've really gotten to the heart of it. What an important principle that is! Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts!
So here's the scoop. If you are taking the Destinations Challenge you are committing to reading 1 chapter from Proverbs each day for 31 days. This blog is a place for you to share your thoughts and comments about what you're reading. You can ask questions or simply dialogue with each other about what you're reading. ENJOY!!!
